Here's an easy way to create precisely fitted lap joints, grooves and dadoes on a table saw, radial arm saw or the Bridge City Jointmaker Pro, using direct reference instead of numerical measurement. Just calibrate it to your blade's kerf width, then use the mating workpiece to set the distance between shoulder cuts (to a maximum of 2"). To position your workpiece relative to a stop block, place the Kerfmaker between the two and cut the first shoulder. Then, simply flip the Kerfmaker end to end to place the second shoulder cut in exactly the right location before removing waste between cuts.
