 | A dowel plate allows you to make dowels from any wood you choose, enabling you to easily match woods or create contrast in your project. Made of hardened A2 tool steel, the dowel plate measures 1.25" x 5.25" and is 1/4" thick. The dowel plate makes 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8" dowels. For best results begin with straight grain stock close to the desired size. Mount the dowel plate over relief holes in a bench, or secure over dog hole. Chamfer the end of the stock and hammer through the desired size hole in the dowel plate keeping the stock perpendicular to the plate as it moves through. With proper care this tool will last for many years. Keep lightly oiled to prevent rust. Should the dowel plate require sharpening, hone it over water stones to restore the edges. |
